The OBS–BUOY 7 WATT employs a combination of motion sensors and an electronic compass to measure the directional wave field with high accuracy. This results in the directional wave spectrum and all parameters derived from it.

The OBS–BUOY 7 WATT is a larger buoy compared to the OBS–BUOY 400 . It is solar-powered and offers both cellular data transfer and SATCOM capabilities. In contrast, the OBS–BUOY 400 is battery-powered and supports only cellular data transfer.
